About this Wine

Our Bulgarian Cabernet Sauvignon has an intense ruby-red color with aromas of ripe black fruit and plums. It is full bodied and at the same time a gentle easy to drink wine. There are subtle background notes of leather. Well balanced with soft tannins and a persistent fruit finish. This wine will be a perfect match for Roast Duck or other game birds.

One of my favorite areas in Bulgaria is the Thracian Lowlands. While there reviewing wines with the winemaker, we were tasting through Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, both of which are amazing. We were also tasting through different vintages. I had a 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon in the tasting. I asked him about it and he told us that this was a special reserve of his and that we should be looking at 2018 or 2019. After a few days of negotiating (nagging) Hristo, he finally gave in and released the 2017. He agreed that being the first time the wine was being sent to America, it should be something extra special, and this bottle of wine really is. Thank you Hristo!

Bulgaria is located between Europe and Asia, situated between Greece, Turkey, Macedonia, Romania and Serbia. It is full of history, tradition and people with immense pride. It is beautiful and rugged with wines that are unique and distinctive. It is one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world with evidence of production dating back to 4000 BCE. The Thracians worshiped wine. Homer's the Iliad refers to these wines as the best in the world. It is believed that Emperor Antonius Pius designated the first wine appellation in Bulgaria.
