About this Wine

Bright ruby-red with purple hues, the nose has intense aromas of Black Cherries and small fruits of the undergrowth followed by a fresh fragrance of Iris and Violet ending with a sweet vanilla and baking spice notes. Powerful and warm on the palate, with a sweet finish in harmonious accord with the olfactory sensations, this Cabernet is a perfect match to a meat stew or breaded veal.

During one of my trips to Italy to visit growers of Pinot Grigio I was introduced to this wine. They wouldn’t tell me when they gave me a glass what it was. I am sure this was to have some fun with the American from Bordeaux. It was obviously Cabernet Sauvignon and though quite familiar also very different. It takes on its own personality and the Cabernet grapes grow very well in this area. They explained these were old vine vineyards and that they had been making this wine in this area for generations and selling none of it for export. It was an easy choice.

Primo Grande

The Tre Venezie in the Northeast corner of Italy gets most of its attention for the amazing Pinot Grigio that they make. While not a large wine by vineyard space or production, the Cabernet Sauvignon from this area is fantastic and has many generations of experience. It was the first area in Italy to plant Cabernet Sauvignon and is still the largest.
